MMB Update - August 20th 2020

Good morning Clio Band Families,

I hope you all have been enjoying the last few weeks of the summer!

After a brief hiatus, we will be resuming MMB rehearsals next week, Thursday. These rehearsals will be our usual 5-8 rehearsals, on a Tuesday/Thursday rotation. Any deviations will be on our MMB calendar at cliobands.org/calendar.

With football being moved to the spring, we will continue with our rehearsals to bring our band students together to be with each other to create a great experience, and strengthen their bonds with each other. These students demonstrated that they are able to adapt to these limitations and guidelines, and come out on top!

As far as performance, we will plan to have a livestream/pre-recorded performance of what the students are working on so they can showcase their work for the season. Here is our schedule for the next few weeks:

August 27th 5-8PM

September 1st 5-8PM

September 2nd 5-8PM (Wednesday)

September 3rd: No rehearsal (Labor Day Weekend)

September 8th 5-8PM

September 10th 5-8PM

September 15th 5-8PM

September 17th 5-8PM

September 22th 5-8PM

September 24th 5-8PM

Students will still need to fill out wellness checks before coming to rehearsal, as well as taking temperatures before rehearsal if possible.

Thank you all for your flexibility and adaptability as we navigate this new normal.

Mr. Mufarreh

MMB Update - July 26th 2020

Dear Clio Band Families,

As we continue to preach during these unique times, we can only worry about what we can control. In spite of the MCBA competitive season being canceled, we will continue with our plans for next week. Here is some information for next week:

1. The schedule for the week is linked here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BeBt8BdcxH9V1kvxXn-E8vRvnKOKbo-3ZWve0fa3rsQ/edit?usp=sharing

We will only rehearse from Monday-Friday. We will unfortunately not be hosting a end of camp Show & Tell performance. In it's place, we will be asking student leadership, staff, parents, etc. to submit photos and videos from the week to this Google Drive folder. At the conclusion of the camp, a video montage will be put together to highlight the students hard work for the week!

2. As stated above, the MCBA competitive season has been canceled. Although we can agree that things have been trending this direction for a while now, I understand the many emotions that come with this decision being official, especially for our seniors in their final season of marching band. This evening, I will be hosting a Senior Zoom for all who are able to attend to discuss some of our options and possibilities going forward. Your Clio Mustang Marching Band staff has already been discussing many exciting possibilities and collaborating with directors and staff from other schools for additional insight.

So what does this mean? Can vs. Can’t.

  1. It means we have an opportunity as a Clio Band Family to reimagine some of the aspects of the activity and the experience, while still thriving as a critical component of Clio High School, student learning, social involvement, and community service.

  2. It means we have to continue to come together as a band community and support each other, stay positive, think “outside the box”, and show the character that I know the program has helped sharpen.

  3. It means that, even with the absence of the benefits of involvement in competitions, our goals that we set out to achieve each year are still attainable. The true success of the Clio Marching Band is and will continue to be measured in the wide-ranging, meaningful experiences provided for our students: the pursuit of excellence, the musical, social, and emotional growth, the continued development of leadership qualities, the importance of teamwork, and the ability to be flexible and adapt to our ever-changing environment. This year more than ever, we will be measured by our ability to be guided by and focused on “what CAN we do”, vs. “what can’t we do”.

The Clio Mustang Marching Band continues with these principles in mind and myself and the staff are excited to share in this new, unique experience with all of you! There are still many questions to be answered as we go forward and we will provide details as we have them. Thank you for your continued support and understanding!

Waivers are going to be sent to your emails to virtual sign, we will also have paper copies. These MUST be signed for your student to come to rehearsal, and students much fill out the check in form before each rehearsal.

  2. Next week, we have rehearsals from 10AM-2PM. 10-12 is our new member wind players/section leaders, 12-2 is ALL percussion (including new percussion members), and colorguard.

  3. It is imperative that each student have their OWN water jug, at least a half-gallon, or a gallon is ideal! Students will not be permitted to share water, so make sure they are prepared!

  4. If you missed our MMB Q&A session, please see the following link: https://youtu.be/zMlrZgDeWeI

  5. Please look for posts that will come from our Booster Parents, we will NEED parent volunteers to make this season possible for our students!

If there are any additional questions, please let me know. Do read through the document carefully, and watch the Q&A if you have a chance, that will help me try to get any questions that haven't already been asked.

We will do what we can to give our students their season, which is all we can control!

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
